Q&A

ASK ZINK!!!

Questions to Zink and answers...with some help from Zink's human friends at

Zink the Zebra Foundation.

Q.  Other kids at school don't seem to like me, no matter how hard I try. I can't get any of the clothes they say are cool. How can I get them to play with me?

A.
Have you talked to your family about it, or your teacher at school? They may have some very good ideas about things you can try. Your teacher might also know of other children who are feeling the same way. You might want to ask the teacher to take some time to discuss this in class, in a way that wouldn't embarrass anyone. Talking about it with people you trust is often the best way to help yourself feel better!

Q.  I have a friend who just got cancer. Would it make her feel better if I gave her a copy of Zink the Zebra, or will it make her sad because the girl who wrote it died?

A.  I know it sounds strange, but cancer patients like your friend are among Zink's biggest fans. She will know that someone else felt the same way she does, and that it's normal to feel different when you have a serious disease. You may want to tell her that you've read the book, and you understand how Zink feels too!

Q.  I think the writing in the Zink the Zebra book is extraordinary. Did Kelly have an opportunity to write anything else that was worthy of publication?

A.  Kelly was a remarkable girl in some ways, and a very typical 11-year-old as well. She obviously had a gift for writing, which showed itself in many letters, personal notes and school assignments. Unfortunately, she never took time away from friends, her beloved horses, family and schoolwork to write anything of note. I like to think of Zink as a special legacy she knew she was destined to leave. Its uniquely high quality makes it seem all the more precious to me. -Les Weil (Kelly's Dad)

Q.  Why don't you do a Zink Coloring Book?

A.  We have an online coloring book! You'll find it in the Fun Zone. Take a closer look by clicking here.

Q.  We were very moved by a performance of Zink: The Myth, The Legend, The Zebra, and we'd like to give a gift to allow the play to be staged by other companies. What would be the best way to do this?

A.  First of all, let us thank you for your interest. The best way to proceed is by contacting Dramatic Publishing through their web site by clicking here.

Q.  My child gets picked on at school and often comes home crying.  What can I do?

A.  Almost every child will encounter a bully at some point in his or her young life.  On the playground, in the classroom, coming home from school.  Please click here for some advice on how to help your child.

Do you have a question that you would like to ask that you haven't seen here?
